The latest fad in today's world is being gay.
I realised that recently when I met an old friend of mine. Being gay is no more taboo as it was a few decades ago. In times of Shakespeare being gay would have got you hanged in many parts of the world ! Even in the early twentieth century being gay was looked down upon......
Well, things have changed.
The person I am referring to was a dear friend of mine since childhood. Due to some issues we shifted town when I was a kid and I lost touch with him. Recently when we moved back, I was taken aback when I was told that he swings the other way ! It was certainly something that hit me in the face like an anvil.
When I met him, my assumptions were asserted. He was wearing a tight light pink tee and was dressed in tight,butt-hugging jeans. He had almost crossed over and the only thing that was amiss was a skirt.
In reality I am not against being gay, but I just feel very uncomfortable in their company. The very thought that they might just be checking me out gives me the chills. As I spoke with him, I realised that being gay had its own advantages.
Firstly, no straight bully would pick on you.
Secondly, you are almost always in the company of girls. Being gay gives them a false sense of security being with you.
Thirdly, you are never criticised for your dressing sense.
The number of men swinging the other way has gone up radically. My question is what has happened to the plain old bloke ?
Most of the guys (atleast in my city) are either metrosexual or gay. Being different is 'in'.
To be absolutely honest I hate this concept. Being normal is now been looked down upon. Guys are now discussing about manicures and pedicures more than sport. Wearing the right clothes and waxing hadn't been this important ever before !
What is wrong with everyone ? Even as this global change sweeps by me, I can't help but cry. Gone are the days when I could wear whatever I wanted and talk freely about girls, sports and cars. Today, personal grooming comes first.
As I write this article I realise that people like me are a dying breed. Maybe I'm an endangered species. Maybe I'm the last of my kind.
All I'm trying to say is that guys must start acting like guys..................or else the battle of the sexes will finally be won.
C'mon guys, please remember that we wear the pants around here !!
